Man City transfer news LIVE (2024)

Manchester City have acted quickly and decisively this summer to secure their main targets, but they'll still feel they have work to do.

After bagging arguably European football's biggest prize in Erling Haaland, City will already feel they've improved this summer no matter what other business they do.

City have also done well to bring in Julian Alvarez considering they've now sold Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling. And with Kalvin Phillips coming in from Leeds United, they've found a direct replacement for Fernandinho.

But there's still another big move which feels likely as they pursue Brighton's Marc Cucurella, whilst Oleksandr Zinchenko continues to be linked with Arsenal. Will that get done this week? Will City make any more surprise moves? We could be about to find out.

TODAY'S BIG TALKING POINT: What are you most looking forward to seeing in the pre-season tour? Have your say here.

Thank you!

Thanks for reading today, all!

A quite one, but rumours continue to swirl around two certain left-backs - Marc Cucurella and Oleksandr Zinchenko.

It would appear, at this point, that the Ukrainian will leave City in order for the Spaniard to join.

Cucurella is a player who will look to earn that left-back spot immediately - could that see Joao Cancelo moved over to the right? And what does that mean for Kyle Walker?

These are questions that will be answered should the deal go through - and we'll know a lot more if that will happen over the course of the week.

We'll be back again tomorrow, try and get some sleep amidst this outrageous heat!

KEY EVENT

Oleksandr Zinchenko 'set for exit'

Oleksandr Zinchenko is set to depart Manchester City after six years, with Arsenal agreeing a £30 million + £2 million deal with the Premier League champions for the Ukrainian in a move that will see him link up with Gabriel Jesus, who joined the Gunners in a £45 million deal a few weeks ago.

That's according to the Daily Mail, who report that the two sides have agreed a deal.

KEY EVENT

Man City 'edge closer' to signing Marc Cucurella

Manchester City are edging closer to the signing of Spanish international and Brighton defender Marc Cucurella.

Cucurella only moved to the Premier League last season, signing for Brighton from Spanish club Getafe.

The 23-year-old had an impressive campaign, particularly for his ability to contribute going forward, despite being a defender.

According to journalist Rudy Galetti, City are now edging closer to the signing of Cucurella.

Five youngsters to watch on Man City's US pre-season tour

We're just three days away from Manchester City's first game of the 2022/23 campaign - a friendly against Club América in the United States.

Ahead of such a hectic season, preparations to defend their Premier League crown are already underway and two games across the pond will give Pep Guardiola a chance to assess his squad and build valuable fitness ahead of the annual Community Shield curtain raiser in a fortnights' time.

Alongside some first-team stars, the Catalan has supplemented his travelling squad with a crop of youth talent. Amongst them are the more established Liam Delap and James McAtee, but there are a few interesting names that could get a chance to impress.

OPINION: Riyad Mahrez will carry a major burden to continue City's dominance

On Friday, Riyad Mahrez committed his long-term future to Manchester City, but the Algerian’s role at the club may have amplified with that new contract.

Signing for a then-club record £60million back in 2018, Mahrez arrived at City with real pedigree and was expected to take another significant step-up in his career at the Etihad Stadium. He was a catalyst for Leicester City’s heroic Premier League title victory in 2016, but it always felt like the winger could reach a new level.

Under the guidance of Pep Guardiola, he has became a crucial player on the biggest occasions for City - particularly in Europe. In 2021, his three goals over two legs against Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-final were crucial in ensuring City reached a club-first Champions League final.

OPINION: City pre-season tour omens should concern Liverpool and Chelsea

If Premier League managers had their way, they would not travel the globe in summer to prepare for the upcoming season.

The football department is outgunned by the commercial team on pre-season tours, with the squad sent thousands of miles to maintain and grow the fanbase and partners — while playing whichever teams happen to be around, whatever the conditions. Give Pep Guardiola the choice and he would surely rather have another week or two in Barcelona, but if a tour is unavoidable then the United States is about as good as it gets.

That may seem a generalisation for such a huge space, and it's true that some places are better than others; the regular sprinklers and ice baths as Manchester City trained on Sunday in Houston were a sign of the scorching temperatures. However, the fact that those cooling facilities are on offer are a reflection of how good so many facilities are across the giant country.

Jack Grealish and Kalvin Phillips among City players 'greeted' in viral prank video

Manchester City's pre-season tour got off to an unusual start as the players received a very special send-off at Manchester airport.

Troy Hawke — a character belonging to the 'Greeter's Guild' created by comedian Milo McCabe — was on hand to greet City's players at the private jet terminal as a doorman, offering words of encouragement before the jetted off to the United States. Filmed and published on City's YouTube channel, Hawke's imaginative one-liners and the reactions of the players, Pep Guardiola and his staff are hilarious.

Jack Grealish was the first to fall for the prank, which he did hook line and sinker.

INTERVIEW: NASA astronaut Doug Hurley opens up on love for City

Doug Hurley had just become the first commander to reach the International Space Station in a commercial spacecraft, making history for both NASA and SpaceX, and opening up a new era of spaceflight.

But that wasn't the highlight of his week, let alone his career. Because the best part of the experience, he says, came when there was a message waiting for him on board from Ilkay Gundogan and Kevin De Bruyne.

Colonel Hurley has been to space three times, piloting the final Space Shuttle mission and the first SpaceX mission to the ISS. He is a decorated fighter pilot and has spent over 92 days in space. He's also a massive Manchester City fan.

Pulisic 'excited' by Sterling signing

Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic has admitted that everyone at the club is "excited" by the addition of Raheem Sterling.

The England international joined the Londoners from Manchester City last week, bringing his seven-year stay at the Etihad Stadium to a close.

On seeing Sterling added to the squad, Pulisic said:

"Great quality. We’re really excited about it. The beautiful thing about being at a club like this is the competition every single day.

"We all thrive competing with each other in training and getting to play with each other is just another great addition to the team. "

City could get transfer budget boost thanks to Jack Harrison

Manchester City could get an extra transfer boost to the tune of almost £5million as Newcastle are linked with former winger Jack Harrison.

The Leeds forward never played for City, but earned them £11m last summer as Leeds made his two-year loan permanent after Harrison played a crucial role in their promotion and impressive first season back in the Premier League.

Now, Harrison is being strongly linked with a transfer to Newcastle, and City would benefit from any move after installing a 20 per cent sell-on clause in the deal that took him to Leeds.

OPINION: Barcelona prove two City decisions correct amid Frenkie de Jong saga

Despite lazy perceptions about the unlimited money that Manchester City operate with, the club have clear red lines that often lead them to walk away from transfers.

This can be related to transfer fees - such as when they would only go to £70m for Harry Maguire in 2019 when Leicester had their own immovable demand of £80m - but cover all aspects of a transfer.

This was the case with Ajax star Frenkie de Jong in 2019. City weren't put off by the £65m price tag on the midfielder that was lighting up the Champions League, but his wages were an issue: paying him more than the excess of £300,000-a-week in wages that was asked for would have blasted their existed wage structure out of the window (Kevin De Bruyne was their highest-paid on £250,000 at the time) and meant they would have had to improve terms for other players as a consequence.

City to 'ramp up' Cucurella interest

Manchester City are poised to 'ramp up' their interest in signing Brighton & Hove Albion left-back Marc Cucurella, according to a report by the Daily Star.

City are set to prioritise the addition of a new left-back to cover the gap that is set to be vacated by Arsenal-bound Oleksandr Zinchenko.

Cucurella has been heavily linked with a move to City in recent weeks and the Blues are now set to try and get a deal over the line for the former Getafe man.

OPINION: Three players can give Pep Guardiola what he has been looking for at City

On February 1, 2017, the future arrived at Manchester City.

City faced West Ham at the London Stadium, way off the pace in the title race but needing a win to boost their bid for a top-four finish. Pep Guardiola's first season in charge wasn't going to plan, but that night in east London was one of the highlights of the campaign.

City thumped the hosts 4-0, with a youthful front-three running the opposition defenders ragged. Leroy Sane (21), Gabriel Jesus (19) and Raheem Sterling (22) put in a terrifying performance, all speed, relentless running and endless changes of directions, flicks and precise passing.

Man City told Oleksandr Zinchenko is 'frustrated' as Arsenal close in on transfer

Pep Guardiola has been offered some firm transfer advice as Arsenal close in on signing Oleksandr Zinchenko.

Having already signed Gabriel Jesus this summer, the Gunners have turned their attentions to former Manchester City teammate Zinchenko and there is a growing expectation that a deal will now happen for the Ukraine international.

Zinchenko, 25, joined City in 2017 and has played 127 games for the club.

Hello and good morning

It's another week, and we can expect more transfer rumours to fly in as City near the start of the season.

It's been a very positive summer for City with their incomings, but work is still to be done.

Will we see Marc Cucurella? And will Oleksandr Zinchenko get his move to Arsenal?
